‘STRIKING’

Inspiration strikes at the most unexpected times! You'd think a week in Spain exploring Madrid's art galleries like the Reina Sofia would be the most significant source of inspiration from that trip, but it wasn't.
What stuck with me most as an 18 year old at the time, was watching a young man dancing and singing through the streets of Madrid with his headphones on and in a world of his own. He didn't care what people thought. He dared to be different. To be seen and heard. To stand out. That's what stuck with at an age where I wasn't yet sure of myself as a man, or an artist.

Again, I find myself in Lanzarote looking at a random graffiti tag on an electrical box. I'm enticed by the "Danger High Voltage" symbol, and the energetic vandalism beside it. The warning sign seemed to describe how I was feeling. A creative force ready to strike. This symbol went on to become a significant motif in my work and expressed the energy i feel when I'm creating art.
