Artist Statement

“The imagination is responsible for everything human-made. Therefore it is our most important skill. ” - Nathan Price

Nathan Price is a Scottish contemporary artist who graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in 2022 with a first class honour’s degree.

Since graduating, Nathan has dedicated himself to the creative process. He has exhibited work in Edinburgh’s Royal Scottish Academy as part of the SSA 130 years annual exhibition, and is striving for his first solo exhibition and international exhibition.

While working and residing in rural Scotland, Nathan uses social media’s global reach to self-promote and translate his art practice into accessible online entertainment.

His aim is to inspire and encourage others to be individually creative and imaginative while developing his own passions.

With an outcome independent mindset, Nathan’s art is playfully intuitive, energetic, bold, imaginative, abstract, resourceful, vibrant, experimental, and fearless. He plays with a range of mediums and enjoys the unfolding relationship between them, encouraging serendipity and an ebb and flow of creation and destruction.

“My art levelled up when I started following the path of least resistance.” - Nathan Price

Seeing his art as a collection of components, rather than individual artworks, allows Nathan to flow and create freely without a guaranteed end point.

“I play with ephemerality within my work and it not lasting forever. Just like life. I’m not trying to hold on but instead let go and embrace change.” - Nathan Price

Accepting change opens up many more possibilities for what Nathan’s art can become. Rather than a singular artwork, the artist asks “what else?” and as such, his components lend from one thing to the next. This process was inspired by Nathan’s observations of ever-changing graffiti / street art walls.

Using the method of ‘Dérives’, Nathan takes unplanned journeys through various terrain,  letting himself absorb and be immersed in his surroundings and unexpectedly influenced by his encounters.

“Life is my teacher. I can learn from everything and everyone”. - Nathan Price
