‘ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY’
During lockdown 2020, art school was closed indefinitely and the world as we knew it was turned upside down. Nathan moved back home and continued his creative development using materials found around the gaff. The substrate for 'One Hundred and Eighty' was once the backing of Nathan's childhood darts board and now presented him an opportunity to escape into, and explore his imagination. At the time, Nathan was researching different artists including Wassily Kandinsky who was known for flipping his paintings upside down. Nathan felt it was more appropriate than ever to use this inspiration.
'One Hundred and Eighty' represents a significant turning point in Nathan's artistic direction and is seen by the artist as a "historical precursor" to his later degree work.
